Arbours Crisis Centre The Arbours Crisis Centre is a unique facility. It was established in 1973 to
provide intensive personal, psychotherapeutic intervention and support within the
context of a non-institutionalised home environment.
Our experience is that undertaking therapeutic work within a day-to-day living
environment facilitates deeper levels of change within the individual. It also
enables areas of difficulty, which otherwise could remain hidden, to surface
naturally and so be worked with effectively.
The crisis centre provides a small, intimate environment, which allows both
independence and interdependence. The members of the clinical team are drawn from a
wide range of professional backgrounds and have specialist skills in working with
people experiencing severe emotional difficulties.
"At Arbours I had my pain acknowledged by people who sincerely cared about me -
therapist and guests. I didn't have to pretend to be 'better'. I was
listened to and made contributions myself. There is no comparison between Arbours
and hospital. I have found a voice for myself that I did not have before."
